CareNX is an India-origin digital health technology platform that leverages artificial intelligence (AI), mobile diagnostics, and cloud-based decision support systems to improve access to quality maternal and women’s healthcare. Founded in 2015 by Shantanu Pathak and Aditya Kulkarni, CareNX was established to address persistent gaps in India’s public healthcare delivery—particularly the lack of timely, affordable, and continuous care for pregnant women in rural and underserved regions. Despite progress in institutional deliveries, preventable maternal and neonatal complications continue due to delayed diagnosis, limited monitoring, and insufficient specialist access.

Core technological architecture and solutions

CareNX operates as an integrated ecosystem of AI-enabled medical devices, mobile applications, and clinician dashboards. Its portfolio includes Fetosense® and Fetosense Plus®, smartphone-based wireless fetal monitoring systems; Anandi, a digital pregnancy care platform for rural mothers; BabyBeat, a self-monitoring solution for expectant mothers; and SindiColpo®, an AI-powered cervical cancer screening tool. These solutions collectively support continuous monitoring, early risk identification, and data-driven clinical decision-making across the continuum of women’s health.

The CareNX model is designed around empowering frontline health workers to deliver last-mile care. Using a portable antenatal care kit integrated with smartphones, community health workers conduct screenings at the household level. These include blood pressure measurement, hemoglobin estimation, blood glucose testing, and fetal heart rate monitoring. The collected data is transmitted to a secure cloud platform, where AI algorithms analyse clinical parameters and flag high-risk cases in real time. Alerts and reports are shared with doctors and public health facilities, enabling timely referrals, follow-ups, and clinical interventions. The system is optimized for low-bandwidth environments, ensuring usability in connectivity-constrained regions.

Clinical decision support and efficiency gains

For clinicians, CareNX consolidates patient histories, real-time reports, and trend analyses into a single digital dashboard. AI-enabled interpretation reduces dependence on manual analysis and saves at least five minutes per fetal monitoring test, allowing healthcare providers to focus on high-risk cases. The intuitive design enables health workers with limited formal training to operate the system effectively, supporting large-scale deployment without extensive capacity-building requirements.

As per updated data, CareNX is currently used by over 1,000 hospitals and more than 3,000 doctors across India. The platform has supported over 500,000 mothers, operates in more than 20 Indian states, and has expanded internationally to six countries, including Nigeria, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. Over one lakh fetal monitoring tests have been conducted using Fetosense, while Anandi has digitally supported more than one lakh pregnancies. The solution has reduced operational costs for healthcare providers by up to 50 percent, while lowering out-of-pocket expenditure for families by minimizing unnecessary hospital visits.

Institutional recognition and ecosystem integration

CareNX has been incubated at SINE, IIT Bombay, and has received international impact funding. It has been recognised by national and global institutions, including UN Women, and has received innovation awards conferred by the President of India. These recognitions underscore the platform’s relevance, credibility, and alignment with public health priorities.

CareNX illustrates how indigenously developed, AI-enabled digital health solutions can strengthen India’s healthcare system by addressing last-mile delivery gaps. By integrating affordable technology, task-shifting to frontline health workers, and intelligent clinical decision support, such models enable early risk detection, continuity of care, and system-level efficiency. At scale, platforms like CareNX can play a critical role in reducing maternal and neonatal mortality, advancing universal health coverage, and supporting data-driven public health planning—positioning digital health as a foundational pillar of resilient and equitable healthcare delivery in India.
