The journey of GenElek Technologies began in 2013 when John Ignatius Kujur, then an engineering student, was moved by the plight of a senior who struggled to find employment due to a locomotor disability. This personal encounter spurred Kujur to explore technological solutions that could empower the disabled. After years of dedicated research, Kujur founded GenElek Technologies in 2018, focusing on developing exoskeletons—robotic support systems designed to enhance human limb capabilities.

A smart suit for the human body

The exoskeleton developed by GenElek is a lightweight, affordable, and wearable device that assists users in walking, thereby aiding in the rehabilitation process. It features an array of sensors that track the user’s gait, providing real-time feedback to an AI algorithm that adjusts the device’s functioning to meet individual needs. This adaptability is further enhanced by cloud-based solutions that generate progress reports for physicians, facilitating tailored treatment plans. The device’s design is adjustable and supports up to 100 kg, with six modes of training to cater to diverse rehabilitation needs.

Affordability That Moves the Nation Forward

GenElek’s innovation is not just a technological marvel but a strategic asset for India. By reducing the cost of exoskeletons by 40% compared to existing solutions, the startup is making advanced rehabilitation technology accessible to a broader population. This aligns with the government’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, promoting self-reliance and inclusivity. The exoskeletons are approved for manufacturing by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), underscoring their compliance with national standards.

From Rehab Centers to Global Arenas

The exoskeletons are set to revolutionize rehabilitation for individuals with paralysis, stroke, spinal cord injuries, and other neurological conditions. GenElek has partnered with the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Center in Mohali and is in discussions with major hospitals to implement this technology. The startup’s involvement in the Cybathlon 2020, where Indian Army veterans will compete using the exoskeletons, highlights the device’s potential to enhance the quality of life for specially-abled individuals.

Next-Gen Tech With a Human Touch

GenElek Technologies is committed to continuous innovation, with plans to develop higher-end medical exoskeletons that focus on comprehensive data gathering and analysis. By collaborating with hospitals and NGOs, the startup aims to expand its impact, offering not just technological solutions but also access to medical experts and occupational therapy. As the company works towards reducing product costs further, it envisions a future where advanced rehabilitation technology is within reach for all who need it.

Empowering Every Step

GenElek’s AI-powered exoskeletons represent a significant leap forward in assistive technology, with the potential to transform the lives of millions of specially-abled individuals in India. By fostering independence and enhancing employability, this innovation is a gamechanger in the quest for a more inclusive and self-reliant nation.
