Founded in 2018 by a team of IIT and IIM graduates, UBreathe emerged from a shared vision to create a world-class consumer product that tackles air pollution sustainably. The founders, Sanjay Maurya, Akhil Gupta, Akshay Goyal, and Inderjeet Rao, leveraged their diverse expertise to develop a solution that not only purifies air but also minimizes environmental impact. Their research, supported by prestigious institutions like IIT Ropar and BIRAC, led to the creation of a series of plant-based air purifiers that enhance the natural air-cleaning abilities of plants.

Turning Plants into Air Warriors

UBreathe’s air purifiers, including models like UBreathe Mini and UBreathe Life, utilize a proprietary ‘Breathing Roots’ technology. This innovation amplifies the phytoremediation process—where plants and soil microbes reduce air contaminants—by up to 500 times. A centrifugal fan increases air volume at the soil-root zone, allowing root microbiomes to interact with more air, thus purifying it more effectively. The technology captures up to 99.97% of pollutants, including particles as small as 0.3 microns, offering a comprehensive solution to indoor air pollution.

Team behind plant-based Air Purifier

UBreathe’s mission aligns with India’s broader goals of sustainability and self-reliance, as outlined in initiatives like Atmanirbhar Bharat. By providing an eco-friendly alternative to mechanical air purifiers, which are often expensive and environmentally harmful, UBreathe supports the country’s transition to sustainable technologies. The startup’s focus on reducing the carbon footprint and promoting health through improved air quality resonates with national efforts to combat pollution and enhance public health.

Changing the Air, Naturally

Since its inception, UBreathe has made a tangible impact, serving over 1,000 customers and generating significant revenue. The startup’s participation in Shark Tank India, where it secured a Rs 1.5 crore investment from Namita Thapar, highlights its market potential and scalability. UBreathe plans to expand its reach through projects with offices and schools, aiming to improve air quality for a broader audience. The technology’s adaptability to various environments, from homes to public spaces, underscores its potential for widespread adoption.

UBreathe’s plant-based air purifiers represent a significant advancement in air quality management, offering a sustainable and effective solution to a critical national issue. By harnessing the natural power of plants and enhancing it with technology, UBreathe not only addresses the immediate problem of indoor air pollution but also sets a precedent for future innovations in environmental sustainability. As India continues to grapple with pollution challenges, UBreathe’s approach could serve as a model for other startups and industries, driving progress towards a cleaner, healthier future.
