India has a growing youth population, but millions of young students do not have access to quality education, especially outside large urban centers. This is because of a shortage of not only teachers but also educational materials. 

One common answer to this problem is to find online resources, but in rural and tribal regions, poor internet connectivity makes this unviable. There are few digital platforms that support classrooms in a context-aware manner. Moreover, the mainstream options tend to prioritize English speakers, again making them inaccessible to rural teachers.

CoGrad, founded by Himanshu Chaurasia and Saurabh Yadav, may have a solution to these problems. Launched in 2019 and headquartered in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, this startup has designed an AI-powered classroom management platform for multilingual Indian users. With implementation across India, it is already democratizing access to information for thousands of village schools.

What does the platform do?

CoGrad’s digital platform for teachers, Medha AI, primarily handles the process of content creation. It uses generative AI to assemble lesson plans, classroom activities, assessments, and worksheets for various school subjects. Additionally, it helps teachers present complex topics such as coding and robotics in ways that are easy to understand for students who have not encountered them before. 

By instantly producing these outputs for teachers, it reduces the burden on teachers to work outside the classroom, rather, and allows them to spend more time directly engaging with students. With more relaxed working conditions, teachers can also exercise their creativity more freely, paying attention to student needs and facilitating more personalized learning.

All data on Medha AI is presented in a simple format on dashboards. With some basic training, teachers can learn to interpret this information and incorporate it in their pedagogy. The platform is optimized to operate in regions with low internet connectivity, making it even more appealing in low-income rural schools.

Early funding

While developing Medha AI, CoGrad received funding from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITy) via the Technology Incubation and Development of Entrepreneurs (TIDE 2.0) scheme. These funds were used for product R&D, piloting, and scaling.

Platform dissemination

Currently, the platform has been deployed in multiple schools and teacher training institutes. Some partnered institutions include the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samitis (NVSs), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathans (KVSs), Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs), and Delhi’s CM SHRI schools. 

Medha AI has reached a total of ~10,000 teachers and ~2,00,000 schools across various states and union territories.

Impact when implemented

Following the usage of Medha AI, teachers have reported that they take 30–40% less time to prepare for classes, with the platform handling lesson planning, assessments, and other supplemental tasks. Consequently, one may surmise better working conditions for teaching staff as a whole.

Students, also, have attested to the utility of Medha AI. In the platform’s initial deployment, 87% of the participating students showed improvements in academic performance within 60 days. With the platform providing teachers more time and reducing their workplace stress, teachers likely become more able to meet the unique learning requirements of each pupil. 

Acknowledgement in the media

CoGrad has received multiple awards for its innovation. Most notably, it featured on Shark Tank India in 2025, where it won an investment and gained visibility for its contribution to India’s education sector. In 2026, too, the startup received recognition, this time in the Indian Education Awards.

Areas for future expansion

Medha AI’s greatest success has been its incorporation into the educational institutions listed above. With public-sector partnerships that integrate it within long-term educational programs, it can help establish a stronger framework for tech-positive teaching in the country. 

Policy entities such as the State Councils of Educational Research and Training (SCERTs) and District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) could use this technology to boost teacher recruitment and skill development. They could also facilitate more studies on impact assessment and content validation to improve the AI component further. 

At the same time, national authorities could announce clear guidelines regulating the use of AI tools, improving accountability for AI innovators and building trust among the public. Such developments could equalize educational access and bridge India’s urban–rural divide in this regard.
