10,000+ units

sold, improving healthcare access in rural India.

67,822+ patients

screened with remote diagnostics.

The journey of Ayu Devices began at the 2015 Medical Device Innovation Conclave (MEDIC) organized by IIT Bombay. Engineers Adarsha K and Tapas Pandey, alongside Dr. Nambiraj Konar, identified a critical gap in the efficiency of traditional stethoscopes. Recognizing the limitations of these devices in capturing faint sounds, they developed a digital stethoscope prototype capable of amplifying and recording heart and lung sounds. This innovation not only won the MEDIC showcase but also secured a fellowship at the Biomedical Engineering and Technology Centre (BETiC) at IIT Bombay, where the team refined their device for market readiness.

Bringing the Doctor Closer, Remotely

Ayu Devices’ digital stethoscope addresses a fundamental challenge in rural healthcare: the lack of access to specialized medical expertise. By converting audio signals into shareable digital files, the device allows community health workers, such as Asha workers, to transmit patient data to doctors located remotely. This capability is crucial in a country where rural areas often lack immediate access to qualified medical professionals. The device’s integration with Bluetooth technology further enhances its utility, enabling seamless data sharing and remote consultations.

Reaching Thousands, One Beat at a Time

Since its commercialization in 2018, Ayu Devices has sold over 10,000 units, screening more than 67,822 patients. The startup’s commitment to innovation and impact has been recognized with several accolades, including the Emerging Start-Up Award by the Bombay Management Association in 2017 and the Academia-Industry Training award in Zurich in 2018. Additionally, Ayu Devices received the Biotechnology Ignition Grant from BIRAC and recognition from the Department of Science & Technology through the CAWACH programme. These achievements underscore the device’s potential to significantly enhance healthcare delivery in India.

Aligning with India’s Health Tech Vision

Ayu Devices’ digital stethoscope contributes meaningfully to India’s ongoing health innovation ecosystem. It aligns with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, enhancing rural diagnostics through connected care. Its tele-auscultation feature supports the goals of the National Telemedicine Service (eSanjeevani) by enabling remote audio-based diagnostics, especially in under-resourced districts. The startup also strengthens the objectives of Make in India and Startup India, as it offers a cost-effective, indigenous solution for scalable health infrastructure. Its affordable pricing and Bluetooth-based connectivity make it highly compatible with frontline health schemes like the Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) under Ayushman Bharat, ensuring broader adoption in rural and semi-urban settings.

Toward Smarter, Inclusive Diagnostics

The digital stethoscope by Ayu Devices represents a paradigm shift in how healthcare can be delivered in rural India. Its potential for replication across other medical devices and its integration with artificial intelligence for enhanced diagnostics position it as a national gamechanger. As India continues to strive towards universal healthcare access, innovations like Ayu Devices’ digital stethoscope will play a pivotal role in bridging the urban-rural healthcare divide, ensuring that quality medical care is within reach for all citizens.
